ALDI Ireland has agreed a new €1.8M contract extension with Folláin, a leading Irish supplier of preserves, currently supplying ALDI Ireland with a range of relish, chutney and sauces. Folláin, a family-owned company in West Cork, traces its roots back to 1983 when they first introduced their batch of grapefruit marmalade using a 100-year-old recipe that had been passed down through family generations.

Since then, Folláin has expanded its range to include an award-winning variety of relish, chutney, sauces and condiments solidifying their position as a trusted supplier within the industry. This year, the company celebrates 40 years of crafting delicious and wholesome products, employing approx. 50 people in their West Cork facility. For nearly two decades, Folláin has proudly collaborated with ALDI to create unique award-winning products. This year, its Specially Selected Ploughman’s Chutney (€1.89) won Gold at the Irish Quality Food and Drinks Awards, while its Specially Selected Chipotle Ketchup (€2.19) and Specially Selected Irish Sweet Tomato Relish (€1.89) won Silver and Bronze accolades respectively at the 2023 Blas na hÉireann awards. All products are available in ALDI’s 160 stores.

Welcoming the contract extension, John Curtin, Group Buying Director, ALDI Ireland said: “We have been working with Folláin for 20 years and their commitment to award winning quality and innovative products aligns with ALDI’s mission. We look forward to providing our customers with exceptional products through this long-term partnership.”

Pat O’Farrell, the Commercial Manager at Folláin, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating: “We work closely with our partners in ALDI to develop and create a unique set of recipes for ALDI customers to enjoy. The products we create for ALDI are specifically developed with the tastes and preferences of Irish shoppers in mind, ensuring that the finished product is the absolute best it can be.”

Folláin’s commitment to sustainability extends far beyond their products, with a focus on investing in local communities and protecting the environment. In 2009, Folláin planted over 5,000 trees, contributing to a greener and more wholesome environment. Additionally, they provided communities with the opportunity to win 200 native trees for their local areas, further demonstrating their dedication to creating a greener future.

As gold members of Origin Green, Ireland’s only national food and drink sustainability programme, Folláin upholds stringent standards in protecting the environment and communities. This membership allows them to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets, highlighting their commitment to responsible practices in the industry.

As Folláin celebrates their 40th year in business, they look forward to continuing their fruitful partnership with ALDI and delighting Irish shoppers with their delicious and sustainable products.
