Lidl opens €4.5 million Merchants Quay store in Cork

30 Oct, 2026

Lidl has opened a new €4.5 million store at Merchants Quay Shopping Centre in Cork city centre, creating more than 20 permanent jobs.

The opening brings the retailer’s network in County Cork to 23 stores and returns a prominent retail space on Patrick’s Street to use after several years of vacancy.

Cork businesswoman and influencer Lisa Jordan joined the Lidl team to officially open the store on Thursday, 29 October. The first ten customers received Lidl gift vouchers, while local charity Cork City Missing Persons Search & Recovery was presented with €1,000 in vouchers to mark the occasion.

The store has a 1,530 sq m sales floor, an in-store bakery and an off-licence. Its 16 tills include 14 self-service checkouts, bringing Lidl’s total number of self-service checkouts in Ireland to 200.

Speaking at the opening, Lidl Ireland’s regional managing director for Munster, Tara O’Connor, said the investment would bring renewed activity to the shopping centre and provide greater choice for shoppers, workers and visitors.

“Following the extensive refurbishment of our Cornmarket Street store last year, this second city centre location reflects our continued commitment and investment in our Cork city store network,” she said.

The Merchants Quay store opens from 8am to 7pm Monday to Wednesday, 8am to 8pm on Thursday and Friday, 8am to 7pm on Saturday, and 10am to 6pm on Sunday.
