SuperValu and Centra have become signatories to the Irish Horticulture Grower-Retailer Charter, underlining their commitment to supporting Irish growers and the long-term sustainability of the horticulture sector.
The charter, an initiative involving Minister Niall Collins and the Irish Horticulture Forum, is aimed at strengthening relationships across the horticulture supply chain and supporting a sustainable future for growers in Ireland.
SuperValu and Centra said Irish growers play an important role in their fresh produce offering, providing locally produced food while meeting customer demand for quality, value and greater knowledge of where their food comes from.
Supporting Irish producers forms a significant part of the wider operations of Musgrave, which operates the SuperValu and Centra brands in Ireland.
Musgrave currently works with more than 1,800 supplier partners and spends over €3 billion annually with suppliers and producers across Ireland.
According to the company, this activity supports approximately 22,000 jobs across the food, agriculture, manufacturing and services sectors.
The signing of the Irish Horticulture Grower-Retailer Charter further formalises the retailers’ commitment to working with growers and other stakeholders across the sector.
SuperValu and Centra said continued collaboration between growers, suppliers, retailers and industry partners would be important in strengthening the resilience of Irish horticulture over the longer term.
